  • $2 million from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to offer a Growth Fund program to work with high quality care and education centers in Detroit, MI, that are considering adding services to meet the multiple needs of lower income families and their children. The grant also helps fund Children’s Chamber of Commerce and fellowship programs in Michigan.
  • $150,000 from the Skillman Foundation to fund First Children’s programs for child care centers serving low income families in Detroit’s Skillman Good Neighborhoods.
  • $1 million from the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund Program of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.  First Children’s Finance will use these funds to support work in financial and development services over the next four years. 
  • $15,000 from the F.R. Bigelow Foundation to support St. Paul, MN, child care businesses participating or planning to participate in Parent Aware, Minnesota’s quality rating and improvement pilot. Funds will be used to address organizational, financial and management challenges that may limit a child care business’s ability to achieve and sustain classroom quality.
  • $5,750 from the Mardag Foundation, St. Paul, MN, to provide business assistance to child care programs located in Blue Earth and Nicollet counties in Minnesota that are participating or planning to participate in Parent Aware.
  • $5,000 from R. J. McElroy Trust to provide business assistance to child care programs in the Cedar Falls/ Waterloo area in Iowa.
